Day Program Injuries
Negligence by Day Program Providers
Arizona and Missouri Day Program Injury Lawyers
Group home residents and others with developmental disabilities are often encouraged to attend day programs. These programs vary in purpose (education, social interaction, occupational therapy, etc.), and according to the needs of the people they serve. But in general, they are meant to enrich the lives of their participants in meaningful ways.
However, as is the case with group homes — day programs for the developmentally challenged are often small, independent operations that receive little in the way of government oversight.
Not surprisingly, many injuries and deaths occur on their watch.
At Knapp & Roberts, we care about giving voice to those with special needs and can effectively tell your loved one's story, and yours, to a judge or jury. For a free consultation — contact us online, call us locally at (480) 991-7677 or use our toll free number: (800) 541-4477.
Cases Involving a Lack of Supervision
Day programs have the same obligations that group homes do with regard to providing adequate supervision and being responsible for the safety of those they serve. In spite of that, cutting corners in terms of the staff to client ratio, in terms of hiring practices and in terms of staff training are still the easiest ways to increase profit and are still too common.
When this happens, day program participants face increased risks for things like falls or choking, or being allowed to wander off on their own (which can lead to any number of other dangerous situations) or worse.
Sexual Assaults
Completely dependent on their caregivers, many developmentally disabled persons are unable to take action to protect themselves from sexual assaults, or even to speak up about it afterwards. Because of that, and because communication between the group homes and day programs providing care to people with developmental challenges often leaves much to be desired — sexual predators have been known to seek this type of employment.
Our attorneys want to give people with special needs a voice, to work to see that they are fully compensated and to make certain that all of the individuals or entities responsible are held accountable.
