Sexual Assaults

Sexual Abuse in Group Homes

Knapp & Roberts — Arizona and Missouri Attorneys

As horrific as it is, sexual predators do not see a developmentally challenged individual as a human being. Instead, they see someone who is challenged and won’t be able to protect themselves, someone who won't be able to report what happened to them, and someone who may not understand what is happening or more to the point — someone who is nothing more than an "object" that cannot fight back or speak out, as a means to a very sick and selfish end.

What they see is a perfect victim.

At Knapp & Roberts, we offer compassionate support through this difficult time to group home sexual assault victims and their families in both Arizona and Missouri. We have been doing this type of work for more than 17 years. We feel it makes a difference. And we have the experience it takes to be an effective voice for your loved one in front of a judge or jury.

We care about giving voice to those with special needs … and we can help.

What Can Be Done?

While it may not be possible to prevent every sexual predator from obtaining employment in a group home or day program, or to prevent every instance of sexual assault — higher resident to caregiver ratios with proper supervision could alleviate the lack of supervision problems and prevent at least some incidents of sexual abuse or rape from occurring.

What can also help is staying aware of and involved in your loved one's care. Sudden changes in mood or behavior, acting unusually withdrawn, depressed or fearful of others — all of these may indicate something is wrong. It may turn out to be nothing but it is better to find that out sooner than later.

By acting on these early warning signs and talking to one of our lawyers about your suspicions — our experience with investigation and the professional resources we have access to can be put to good use.

Let us make a difference for you.
